Camp Season Salary: $2500 plus room and board.
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Program Director is responsible for supervising Program Assistants as they plan, lead, and implement outdoor camp programs, trips, activities, and experiences for girls ages 5-17 for an assigned group of campers. This position is also accountable for the general safety and empowering the personal growth and skill development of the participants in their group. The Program Director exhibits enthusiasm and patience while exemplifying the Girl Scout core values of honesty, caring, courage, and character.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
- Assists in providing ten days of staff training prior to the arrival of campers
- Ensures program staff attend to safety of campers at all times; follows and instructs program staff on procedures for incidents and emergencies
- Provides general supervision of all camp staff in their daily and weekly work, provides regular feedback and encouragement
- Works to create a positive group culture through team-building and problem-solving activities
- Ensures program staff are scheduling and carrying out weekly age-appropriate programming requirements in their specific program area, such as waterfront, crafts, nature, archery, challenge course and trips
- Instructs Program Staff on how to teach and encourage campers to progress in independent and group living skills such as caring for equipment, proper use of supplies and equipment, clean up and following safety guidelines
- Instructs Program Staff on how to plan, prepare, and implement age-appropriate programming and curriculum
- Models how to engage all campers in games, crafts, or other activities at all times (including during the girls’ down time, meals, all-camp activities, clean-up, etc.)
- Attends all meals with campers in the dining hall or during cook-outs. Teaches and models table manners, appropriate meal conversation and positive social interactions.
- Instructs and coaches unit staff to provide opportunities for girls to lead during all activities and “girl planning” meetings
- Models and instructs on personal responsibilities such as conflict management, positive relationships, following rules, and respecting camp property
- Follows and implements appropriate behavior management procedures with all campers. Supports Unit Staff to increase their skills and assist with challenging camper behavior that may present itself
- Completes and submits all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner, encouraging Program staff Unit Leaders to do the same
- Exhibits punctuality and communication in time management, including daily and weekly breaks
- Respects and follows the “Camp is for the camper” philosophy by attending to camper, staff and camp needs first
- Represents camp appropriately in the community and with parents by maintaining personal hygiene, following camp dress code, and communicating respectfully with campers, parents and other adults.
- Actively participates in staff trainings, meetings, and camp closing activities, including but not limited to deep cleaning, lifting or moving equipment, taking out trash and closing inventory
- Reports concerns and incidents to Camp Director
- Practices the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve
- Leads weekly scheduling meetings with Unit Leaders. Address staff supervisory issues, providing support and advice to supervisors
- Follows all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws and the American Camp Association

- Must be 21 years or older
- Current First Aid & CPR certification
- One (1) year experience working with girls ages 5-17 through camp, day care, or teaching.
- One (1) year experience in a supervisory role and demonstrates the ability to supervise other staff members, including giving appropriate feedback, providing a positive role model and addressing challenges quickly and professionally
- Ability to grasp the landscape within an organization, show passion for working with Girl Scouts and the nonprofit environment and expertise in using various communication vehicles that engage girls, volunteers, parents, donors and the community
- Valid Driver’s License and insurability required
- Reliable transportation required
- Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:
Regularly lift objects up 30 pounds, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch while performing custodial duties. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, up to 12 hours, and work in inclement weather. Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors (no color blindness)
