Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho is looking for a Finance Director. This position reports directly to the CEO. This is a full-time, exempt, hourly position that is eligible for benefits and paid time off. 

Compensation :$50,000-65,000 annually, DOE

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Finance Director (FD) position at GSEWNI is accountable for the administrative, financial and risk management operations of the council, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results. Position is also responsible for Information Technology and employee benefits. The FD plays a key role with every aspect of the council business and is required to work collaboratively with many different constituencies and therefore must be aware of the entire council operations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

Governance

  • Coordinates and works with the Finance and Audit committees in addition to the Board Chair to provide required information for timely financial reporting and audit requests. Strives for a clean audit every year.
  • Prepares resolutions for finance related items for the Board of Directors.
  • Plays an active role in the strategic planning process.
  • Works with GSUSA for all financial requirements and requests.
  • Attends all Board meetings and present Financials.
  • Establishes strong relationships with our financial partners.
Finance and Administrative Management
  • Participates as a member of the Executive Team.
  • Works with all departments and the CEO to prepare the annual business plan and budget for presenting to the Board of Directors.
  • Prepares and presents the capital budget annually to the finance committee.  Implements and oversees the development of the organization’s various budgets, as well as administers and monitors operating and capital plans and budgets
  • Oversees Finance and Accounting Department, including all accounting functions including payroll, daily accounting tasks, financial and government reporting and cash management.
  • Oversees and directs tax, accounting, purchasing, long range forecasting and insurance activities for the organization.
  • Ensures that all organization financial operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, federal and not-for-profit regulations, guidelines and laws.
  • Analyzes, consolidates and directs all cost accounting procedures, along with other statistical and routine reports.
  • Oversees financial and government audits, identifies opportunities for improved efficiencies and supervises the implementation of improvements to internal controls and/or operating procedures recommended in the audit management letter.
  • Maintains internal controls of the organization’s’ finances and assets.
  • Prepares and issues timely and accurate financial statements, analyses and reports.
  • Safeguards the organization’s assets, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and timely, and are recorded in keeping with generally accepted accounting standards and principles.
  • Develops performance measures that tie to the annual business plan and support GSEWNI’s strategic direction.
Information Technology
  • Evaluates all technology needed for GSEWNI.
  • Budgets appropriately for replacements and upgrades so the staff have the tools to do their job.
  • Works with vendors and contractors to negotiate the most efficient use of monetary investments.

Human Resources

  • Manages and oversees GSEWNI benefit packages for all employees.
  • Works with the Human Resource department (could be outsourced or internal) for all HR related matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant course of study, and/or equivalent experience; Graduate degree preferred, but not required. Certified Public Accountant credentials preferred.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of directly relevant work experience, preferably in non-profit organization, demonstrating progressively increasing responsibility and accountability, as well as overall functional success.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaborative management and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven capability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Experience with partnering with HR, IT, Property and other departments, as functionally necessary, as well as supervising the Finance and/or Accounting, and Retail staff.
  • Evidence of having worked as a true business partner to a CEO, including proven willingness to share information.
  • Impeccable math skills to successfully lead and/or manage responsibilities as described above as well as combined budgets of $2.4M.
  • A proven, genuine ability and willingness to translate complete financial reporting into easily-understood material and communicated it as requested.
  • Demonstrated evidence of having successfully interpreted financial components of a strategic vision into a highly-functional operation model.
  • Must be experienced in the use of computers, including word processing, Outlook, spreadsheets, and the internet.  Must be able to compile information and develop related reports, using council software.  Must possess computer literacy in all Microsoft Office Products; including the understanding of Adobe products, website and CRM software programs such as SalesForce.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA.

Physical Abilities:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to:
    • Sit for prolonged periods of time;
    • walk and climb stairs;
    • operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard;
    • and utilize verbal and written communication to exchange information
    • Clearly see 20+ feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors
    • occasionally stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist;

Mental & Other Skills/Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the:

  • Multi-Tasking Ability: ability to handle many diverse tasks/projects at one time; ability to prioritize and complete them on time.
  • Supervisory Ability:  responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluations of the COO’s direct reports; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Work Environment:
While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee is exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.  Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment is an integral part of this position, as is the ability to work with high-stress situations based on the nature of GSEWNI mission and daily work.
